Beaufort Real Estate Owners Fill Their Days With Beaufort Events

The Spring Tour of Homes and the Fall Festival of Houses offer a peek into some of Beaufort real estate’s most significant architectural jewels and historic structures. The Spring Tour benefits the St. Helena Episcopal Church missions for the needy. The Fall Festival raises funds for the Historic Beaufort Foundation, the organization that secured the National Historic Landmark designation for Beaufort SC.

During the house tour weekends, most of the downtown Beaufort art galleries open their doors for a Gallery Walk that extends until the evening.

In May, the Gullah Festival fills Beaufort's Waterfront Park with cultural delights. African and African-American crafts, music, storytelling and dancing demonstrate the past and present in the life of the Gullah people.

Another Beaufort celebration of Gullah life takes place in the fall at Penn Center Heritage Days in November. Penn Center was established as the permanent home of the first school for former slaves in the country. It grew to become an educational, cultural and community center. Today it houses a museum and hosts special events throughout the year.

Every July at the annual Water Festival, Beaufort real estate owners go crazy for ten days with bed races, raft races, kayak races, boat races, air shows, golf tournaments, concerts, dances and some serious dining.

Almost every Beaufort real estate owner looks forward to the annual Shrimp Festival held in October each year. This is a shrimp lover’s paradise. A walk and run kicks off the event that includes music, arts and crafts, children’s activities and samplings of shrimp recipes by local chefs. Shrimp fishermen even sell their plump delicacies right off the boat.
